This year, the flu vaccine is being offered to the following groups of children;

  • Healthy children aged 2 and 3 years (born between 1.9.14 - 31.8.16)
  • All children in Reception and school years 1,2,3,4 and 5 at Primary School (this will be given by a school nurse)
  • Children aged 6 months - 17 years who have long term conditions which put them 'at risk'*

Children in the groups above aged 2 - 17 years are eligible to have the nasal vaccine.

Children in 'at risk' groups aged 6 months - under 2 years should have the injected vaccine.

*At risk groups include children suffering from any of the following conditions:

  • Asthma and respiratory conditions
  • Diabetes
  • Heart conditions
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Immunosuppression
  • Neurological conditions.

Protecting your child can prevent the flu spreading to other children and also other members of the family who are vulnerable e.g babies and grandparents who are at particular risk.
